Dollar Ends Slightly Higher
The dollar ended slightly higher against most major currencies Tuesday, retaining some gains made after a bomb explosion in Moscow created apprehension about Russian political stability.
The dollar’s advance from news of the explosion was narrowed by evidence that Germany’s economy is strengthening. That helped the German mark because it lessened the likelihood of lower German interest rates.
There also were rumors that the Bank of Japan had intervened again in the foreign exchange market, buying dollars to raise the currency’s value against the yen.
