Cast Some Light On Those Train Rides
Many adults who grew up in Spokane share train-ride memories. Catch a train to Oregon or Montana or even Seattle in the daylight hours and watch out the window as mountains, rivers and wheatland vistas unfold.
Children who live in Spokane now can only catch a train out of here in the middle of the night. They miss that scenery. What a loss.
Amtrak, in a cost-cutting move, recently announced it will add more stops in Spokane because of schedule cutbacks at other stations. This is great news. We urge Amtrak, as it revamps the schedule, to make it possible once again to catch a train in Spokane during daylight hours.
This makes good business sense. Parents who remember the train trips of their youth may just hop aboard one of those trains with their children. Take the train to Seattle, for instance, instead of driving there. Just for the memories.
It’s a lovely way to travel - when it’s light enough to see.
