Torme Suffers A Mild Stroke
Singer Mel Torme, known as the “Velvet Fog” for his smooth voice, was hospitalized after suffering what his spokesman said Tuesday was a mild stroke.
“The prognosis is for a full and speedy recovery. There’s no paralysis,” said Rob Wilcox, adding that the 70-year-old singer was in good spirits. “If I know Mel, he’s humming a song right now.”
Doctors were conducting tests and it wasn’t clear how long Torme would be hospitalized, the publicist said. Torme has been recording an album tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, who died June 15.
“He was in the recording studio for three days and on Thursday, after seeing a movie, he experienced some dizziness and his wife took him to the hospital,” Wilcox said.
