Two Arrested In Tonasket Murder
Fri., Aug. 16, 1996
Two men were held Thursday for investigation in the shooting death of a Tonasket, Wash., man.
Jack L. Sherwood, 28, was shot twice with a shotgun Tuesday night, once in the back and once in the chest, Okanogan County Sheriff Jim Weed said. Sherwood’s body was discovered Wednesday by a motorist four miles up Peony Creek Road, about 14 miles east of Tonasket, he said.
Joseph Albert Rowe, 43, and Richard Lee Lentz, 59, both of Tonasket, turned themselves in to the Oroville Police Department Wednesday afternoon, Weed said.
They were booked into the Okanogan County Jail for investigation of second-degree murder. Bail was $100,000 each.
The men told authorities they were out drinking in a truck Tuesday night, looking to poach animals, Weed said. They shot a 6-month-old calf before getting into an argument, he said. Sherwood was shot a few feet from where the calf lay.
