Argonne stores deserve to be compensated

The power of eminent domain or condemnation is the taking of your property by the government for public use, but there must be just compensation.

The construction of the underpass on Argonne and the construction on Sprague is taking the business away from the nearby businesses by an estimated amount of over 50 percent. This is an amount that some may never recover from.

It is only fair that these be reimbursed and not be penalized for the convenience of the general public or those creating the traffic.

When these projects are anticipated, certainly an amount should be estimated and added into the cost and those who pay so dearly should be reimbursed weekly, or monthly of the loss that has been incurred.

Maybe a class action suit could be taken for those that have already, or are presently being hurt. After all, a lady got paid for spilling hot coffee in her lap. Rod Auclair Millwood

Pet food distribution greatly benefits seniors

I’m writing in regards to the article “Meals on Wheels delivering free pet food” (Valley Voice, Aug. 8).

Thanks to Joanie Merriman, new Argonne Tidyman’s compassionate checker, store management, Meals on Wheels, Purina Pet Food Co., our caring customers who donate, and volunteer drivers who deliver pet food along with senior meals, we sincerely appreciate all of you.

Seniors with low incomes who own pets find it hard to feed and care for their companions. In many cases there is self-denial in order to care for their loving pets. I feel to own and care for a devoted, loyal pet is a great incentive in our senior years. It sure would be lonely without them.

My Sheltie Collie is 12 years old, and failing now. When the time comes I will have my pet humanely euthanized, to avoid further suffering. In the meantime, she and my cats are my family. Thanks to all of you, they will be terribly missed. Mary Cosentini Spokane
