Open Retreat Planned At Central Methodist
A Christian Ashram will be observed next Saturday and Sunday at Central United Methodist Church, 518 W. Third.
An ashram is a retreat designed to restore the church community through spiritual disciplines of prayer, study, worship, meditation and witness.
The event, sponsored by Centenary, Mead and Central United Methodist churches, is open to all denominations.
E. Stanley Jones, author and world missionary evangelist, developed the program in 1930 as a way for Christians to renew themselves and others to continue Christian work in the world.
Three essential features for the renewal are:
The Hour of the Open Heart, a time when questions are shared and prayers are requested and offered.
The Evangelist’s Hour proclaims the Good News with participants invited to experience the “Word made flesh” through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It’s a time to identify outer and inner barriers that cause broken relationships.
The Hour of the Overflowing Heart is a time for expressions of gratitude, praise, encouragement and hope.
The event begins with registration at 9 a.m. Aug. 24. A $5 donation covers the ashram and lunch.
For more information, call Central church at 838-1431.

There will be music by Hand Picked, a bluegrass gospel quartet, and the Sweet Adelines. The Rev. Bob Smith will be the guest speaker.
