System Problem Contaminates Water
A malfunction in Spirit Lake East’s private water system caused contamination of the water that serves 169 homes, according to the state Division of Environmental Quality.
Coliform was found in water samples taken Aug. 6. The type of coliform found, however, was not fecal coliform, also known as e-coli.
“Coliform is not disease-causing but it is an indicator” that bacteria could be in the system, said Steve Tanner of the DEQ.
Residents were advised to boil their water as a precaution, he said.
The problem was traced to a malfunctioning chlorinator, which is believed to have been repaired. , DataTimes
