More Activities Could Mean More Injuries

Nick Harder Orange County Register

With summer activities, injuries sustained around the house can increase. People are out doing a lot more things around their yards and working on projects they didn’t tackle during the winter.

It’s important to know what to do if someone gets hurt. That’s one reason why my wife and I took a first-aid course recently. It was just one evening, but we learned a great many things.

An aspect of the course that interested me was what should go into a first-aid kit.

Here’s what’s recommended:

Gauze bandages

Adhesive tape

Acetaminophen (adult and child)

Syrup of Ipecac (for poisons)

Thermometer

Benadryl

Creams/ointments, sunscreen, lip balm, an antibiotic and insect repellant

Alcohol swabs

Scissors

Tweezers

Adhesive bandages

Ace wraps

Sterile cotton
