Plane Diverted When Note Claims Bomb Aboard

Associated Press

A Puerto Rico-bound jet returned to New Jersey’s Newark International Airport Saturday after a passenger found a note claiming there was a bomb on board.

Carnival Airlines Flight 133 landed safely, no bomb was found and the 172 passengers were preparing to transfer to another plane to resume the trip, spokesman Gabriel Gabor said from Miami.

The note was found a few minutes after the plane took off at 3:28 p.m.

The passenger notified a flight attendant, who told the captain, who piloted the plane back to Newark, Gabor said.

It taxied to a remote location, where passengers and the crew of seven left the aircraft, he said.

A bomb squad was combing through the plane.
