‘Dumbest’ Mugger Gets Prison Term

The man the tabloids have dubbed “the world’s dumbest mugger” was sentenced to one and a half to three years in prison Friday.

Willie King, 37, pleaded guilty to snatching the purse of the mother of reputed Mafia boss Vincent Gigante as she walked with her other son, the Rev. Louis R. Gigante, on July 21 in Greenwich Village.

King, 37, didn’t know the identity of his victim, but he soon found out. So he wasted no time making amends.

His lawyer told the judge: “My client wishes to express great remorse. He does apologize to Miss (Yolanda) Gigante and the Rev. Gigante. He’s admitted his guilt at the earliest opportunity, because he wants to put this incident behind him, and he hopes the Gigante family will too.”

The family was not in court to express its views.
