Defending champion Steffi Graf of Germany was seeded No. 1 in the women’s singles championship of the U.S. Open, which starts Monday and runs through Sept. 8 in New York.

The men’s seedings will be announced today.

John McEnroe, 37, will play for the Kansas City Explorers when the eight-team league begins its season in September. Playing for Kansas City will mark the first World TeamTennis experience for McEnroe.
