Kit-Airplane Crashes Into Two Vehicles
A small kit-built aircraft crashed into two vehicles on a road south of here Tuesday after its engine stalled, a Pierce County spokesman said. The driver of one car was seriously injured.
The car driver, 21-year-old Stacy Hendrickson of Puyallup, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she was reported in serious condition with head injuries.
The 62-year-old pilot of the Glassair kit plane, Robert Goodman of Tacoma, and the driver of a small pickup hit by the airplane both suffered minor injuries, sheriff’s spokesman Curt Benson said. Goodman was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup. The pickup driver was identified as Stephen Benny, 39, of Puyallup.
The accident occurred at 5:12 p.m.
Benson said the pilot told him he had taken off from nearby Thun Field and was about 300 feet up when the engine stalled.
