Now It’s Up To Selig

Compiled From Wire Services

Baseball players and owners are waiting for acting commissioner Bud Selig to make the next move, and there were no breakthroughs when the sides met for about an hour to discuss their remaining differences.

Union head Donald Fehr and management negotiator Randy Levine got together over lunch.

Last week, the union rejected management’s offer to give service time for the 75 regular-season days wiped out by the 1994-95 strike to all but the 18 or 19 players who need the time to become eligible for free agency after this season.

Selig must now decide whether to give Levine the authority to make an offer that includes service time for all players.
