Speeders, Drunken Drivers To Be Targeted

From Staff And Wire Reports

Authorities will be teaming up in the Spokane area this holiday weekend, targeting drunken drivers and speeders.

State troopers, police and sheriff’s deputies will be beefing up patrols on Division Street and U.S. Highway 2, according to the Washington State Patrol.

In addition, troopers statewide will conduct special drunken driving patrols, beginning at 8 p.m. today and ending Saturday.

The state patrol asks drivers with cellular phones to help by reporting suspected drunken or reckless drivers.

Six traffic fatalities were reported over the Labor Day weekend last year. There were 18 deaths in 1994. , DataTimes
