Ballanger Defends Title

World and Olympic champion Felicia Ballanger of France defended her title in the women’s sprint final at the World Cycling Championships, and Svetlana Samokhvalova of Russia beat American Jane Quigley in the final of the women’s points race.

Ballanger scored an emphatic final win over Germany’s Annette Neumann.

Quigley was narrowly beaten out of the gold medal by defending world champion Samokhvalova in the final sprint of the women’s points race.

Former world champion cyclist Lance Armstrong will make more than $1 million per year racing for the French team Cofidis.
