More Construction Projects At Air Field
There are two major construction projects underway at Felts Field, including a new building for the FAA Flight Standards District Office.
The building will be located between the existing air traffic control tower and the N.A. Degerstrom Inc. hangar off Rutter Avenue.
McKinley Contracting, Inc. of Spokane will design and construct the building, said Todd Woodard, marketing and public relations manager for Spokane Airports.
The FAA Flight Standards District Office currently is on the second floor of Felts’ airport terminal. The new building will cost $700,000 to construct and will be 24,300 square feet.
The other project is installation of a new instrument landing system. The new system enables pilots to land with visibility at approximately three-quarters of a mile. Before, pilots relied on their own vision to land planes.
Woodard said installation of the system, which was originally in use at Spokane International Airport, is expected to be completed by September.
