New Commander Named For Fort Lewis

From Staff And Wire Reports

Lt. Gen. George Crocker, former commander of the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, will assume command of Fort Lewis and the Army’s I Corps on Friday.

Crocker succeeds Lt. Gen. Caryl Glenn Marsh, the fort’s top ranking officer for the past two years, who is retiring after 34 years of service.

A change of command ceremony was scheduled for Friday morning.

Crocker, 53, previously commanded the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C. He is a 1966 West Point graduate who served two tours of duty in Vietnam, and led a battalion into battle in Grenada in 1983. In 1990, he was placed in charge of all special forces assigned to the Pacific Command.

Marsh, 57, commanded I Corps and Fort Lewis since August 1994. He previously served as an assistant division commander at Fort Campbell, Ky., and commanding general for the Berlin Brigade in Europe.
