Tribe Delays Action On Land Closure
The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Council postponed action for one year on a proposal that would close a portion of reservation land to all non-tribal members.
The proposal involves the southwest portion of the Mission Mountains, including the upper Jocko River and St. Mary’s Lake.
Officials will use the year to study the proposal and gather information on non-tribal impacts on the land and wildlife.
Three of the nine council members at Tuesday’s meeting supported immediate closing of the popular recreation area to anyone not a tribal member.
