The Slice A Trick That Might Prove Useful In Other Situations

Identical twin infants were having their pictures taken with Santa in downtown Spokane.

One baby enjoyed it. But the other fussed so much that taking a snapshot of the twins together just wasn’t going to work. So their mother came up with a Plan B - separate photos.

But there was a twist. After the happy baby’s picture had been taken, she switched the kids’ hair bands, which were different colors. Then she had the same child photographed with Santa again, this time posing as the other twin.

Nobody will notice, the mother said. And she’s probably right.

Pet names: Nick Hofland nixed calling the family cat Honey. He couldn’t see himself standing at the door, saying that in a loud voice. So his wife, Deb, agreed to a change. The new moniker? Cupcake.

And Deer Park’s Sherry Lindsey has a laid-back black-and-white cat named Mr. Pussy Face.

Set-in-Spokane holiday movies we’d like to see: “Miracle on a Culde-Sac,” “The Grinch Got Whacked on I-90” or “It’s An OK Life.”

Your turn.

Reader-recommended roadside cafes include: Three Sisters in Cheney, Corner Cafe in Creston (check out the pies), Bubba’s in Almira, the cafe in the Ritzville Hotel (try the Cuban black bean soup), the Riverside Bar & Grill in Curlew, Billy Burger in Wilbur, the Red Brick Cafe in Rosalia, and the Old Pioneer Bakery in Davenport.

Why some men name certain body parts: “They never had an anatomy class and don’t know the real name.” - Dave Koch, Valleyford

So stay home already: A Spokane retail clerk told us he gets a kick out of it when shoppers in his store on a Sunday or a holiday complain about the establishment being open.

Everybody’s a critic: “Country is to music as Etch-a-Sketch is to art.” - Chip Pulling

Rub-a-dub-dub: It wouldn’t fit in the sink. So Davenport’s Lynee Carpenter once placed a 23-pound turkey in the bathtub for defrosting. Checking on it a bit later, she found the bird in a froth of soap bubbles, with her then 3-year-old daughter washing its back with a sponge.

Update: The owner of that lost camera has been found, alive and well and living in Libby, Mont.

Today’s Slice question: What’s it like to be Jewish in a region with so few Jews?
