Montana State Basketball Program Put On Probation
The NCAA has put the Montana State men’s basketball team on probation for two years after the school reported a recruiting violation which occurred during the spring of 1993, Athletic Director Chuck Lindemenn announced Tuesday.
Lindemenn and the NCAA said the violation involved an assistant coach who is no longer at MSU providing improper assistance during the recruitment of a junior college student-athlete. As a result, the player was ineligible during the 1993-94 season.
MSU lost a scholarship for the 1997-98 academic year, can only bring in two more players on scholarship next year, and must forfeit 15 of the team’s 16 wins in the 1993-94 season.
