Wheel Breaks Off, Hits, Kills Motorist

From Staff Reports

A St. Maries woman died Tuesday after a loose wheel crashed through her car’s windshield on U.S. Highway 95.

Karen L. Miller, 55, was pronounced dead at Kootenai Medical Center here. Miller and her husband, Wayne, were traveling north near Mica Hill about 8:30 a.m. Karen Miller was the passenger, the Idaho State Police said.

The couple was following a tractor-trailer rig driven by Joseph P. Albee of Midvale, Idaho. He was pulling a mobile home, according to the state police.

A tire-and-wheel assembly broke off the mobile home, striking a southbound car driven by April L. Klassen, 21, of Plummer, Idaho. The wheel then flew through the windshield of the Millers’ car, the state police said.

Wayne Miller was listed in fair condition late Tuesday at Kootenai Medical Center. Klassen was treated and released. , DataTimes
