Boys Teams From Cda At Home This Weekend
The Coeur d’Alene and Lake City high school boys basketball teams make their home debuts this weekend after opening in the Boise area last week.
Both schools will take on Eagle of Meridian, which is favored to win the Southern Idaho Conference (Boise area) championship.
Young Lake City (1-1) will entertain Eagle (1-1) Friday while Coeur d’Alene (2-1) plays host to Centennial (1-1) of Meridian.
The CdA teams swap opponents for Saturday afternoon matinees at 2:30.
Sandpoint (2-0) makes its annual trip to Columbia Falls, Mont., for a pair of games Friday and Saturday.
In other games Saturday, Post Falls (1-1) welcomes Colville and Lakeland (0-1) goes to Bonners Ferry (2-0) for an Intermountain League opener.
Openers in 1997
Inland Empire League girls basketball teams have traditionally played conference openers this week.
But with the season pushed back a week, IEL openers were similarly pushed back.
Four of the five teams make league debuts Jan. 4, when Post Falls visits Lake City and Sandpoint travels to Lewiston. Coeur d’Alene opens Jan. 9 at Post Falls.
T-Wolves remain on top
The Lake City girls continued their stranglehold on the No. 1 ranking in this week’s Idaho A-1 poll.
The Timberwolves (6-0) received all eight first-place votes and 80 points, outdistancing No. 2 Borah, which received 41 points.
Bonners Ferry (3-0) moved into the A-2 rankings for the first time this season at fifth. Bishop Kelly (5-0) vaulted past Preston (4-1) into first.
Grangeville (5-1) and Troy (4-0) continued atop the A-3 and A-4 polls, respectively.
No boys polls, though
We apologize for the lazy ways of most prep sportswriters across the state.
Only five votes were received for the initial boys basketball polls, so The Associated Press bureau in Boise canceled the rankings.
Votes were received from The Spokesman-Review, the South Idaho Press in Burley, the Post Register in Idaho Falls, The Times-News in Twin Falls and the Coeur d’Alene Press.
AP said an attempt will be made again next week to get the poll off the ground. AP also scratched the preseason poll last week because of a lack of interest in the media.
