Reserve Finally Finds Range As Lobos Win In Overtime

Reserve guard Royce Olney saved No. 15 New Mexico in regulation with a 3-pointer, then scored eight points in overtime Friday night to lead the Lobos to an 84-82 men’s basketball victory over New Mexico State at Albuquerque, N.M.

Olney, who had hit only 1 of 8 3-pointers through the game’s first 38 minutes, connected on a baseline jumper with 1:46 left in regulation to cut New Mexico State’s lead to 68-67.

New Mexico (7-1) took a 70-68 lead on a free throw by David Gibson and two more by Kenny Thomas in the final minute, but New Mexico State’s Louis Richardson sent it into overtime by hitting a 5-footer in the lane with 4.2 seconds remaining.

Freshman A.J. Guyton scored 21 points to lead the Hoosiers (8-1) to a victory over the Bulldogs (2-4) in the first round of the Indiana Classic at Bloomington, Ind.

The Bulldogs were led by Lonnie Cooper with 14 points. Indiana dominated except for a 6-minute stretch in the first half when it went without a basket.
