Auburn Defense Stops Texas Tech

Joe Ciampi figures defense did No. 25 Auburn’s talking Saturday in a 70-55 victory over eighth-ranked Texas Tech in a matchup of women’s top-25 basketball teams.
Tara Williams scored 24 points, 10 during a second-half spurt as Auburn (5-0) raced ahead of the cold-shooting Red Raiders (5-1).
Ciampi said Texas Tech “came in here averaging 88 points a game and we held them to just 55. That is a big part of us making a statement in the basketball community.”
Auburn held Texas Tech to 23-percent shooting in the second half and 31 percent for the game, while the Tigers shot 43 percent.
The Tigers broke ahead 14-0 as Texas Tech did not score for the first 8 minutes. However, the Red Raiders outscored Auburn 30-16 to tie the score at halftime.
Alicia Thompson’s 20 led the Red Raiders and Melinda Schmucker added 15.
