Boise Foothills Timber May Be Harvested
Boise National Forest officials are considering a proposal for a salvage harvest of timber killed in last August’s Eighth Street Fire in the Boise Foothills.
The proposal calls for using helicopters next summer to harvest an estimated 5 million of the estimated 7.3 million board feet of dead or damaged timber in the fire area.
“We would never salvage harvest in this area if we thought there was any chance of it resulting in an increased risk to life or property due to watershed failure,” Mountain Home District Ranger Larry Tripp said.
A public information meeting is scheduled Thursday.
