Mail Handling To Peak Today

The year’s busiest day for the nation’s mail handlers comes today, with volume expected to triple from normal.

Postal officials expect to handle 275 million cards and letters today with volume for the holiday season forecast at 18.7 billion items.

On an average autumn day, the post office handles about 94 million cards and letters, climbing to 151 million daily between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The busiest delivery day is expected to be Wednesday, following all the mailing and its sorting and shipment.
