Wetteland A Ranger
The Rangers, whose bullpen proved unreliable this past season with 43 saves in 59 opportunities, reached an agreement with free-agent reliever John Wetteland on a four-year contract worth approximately $23 million.
Wetteland, who converted 43 of 47 save opportunities for the 1996 World Series champion New York Yankees, succeeds right-hander Mike Henneman and gives the organization a legitimate closer.
David Wells’ agent spoke with New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner and said he expects an offer for the veteran left-hander very soon.
