Christmas Tradition Concert Helps You Keep Sight Of The Religious Holiday

It’s no big revelation that Christmas is a commercially indulgent holiday.

Too often we become absorbed by shopping for gifts, decorating the house and entertaining friends and family. We lose sight of Christmas as a religious holiday.

But there are ways to take the commercial edge off the holiday season, such as attending the Christmas Candlelight Concert at St. John’s Cathedral, 127 E. 12th, Sunday at 4 and 8 p.m.

The annual concert in the great Gothic cathedral will feature performances by the Clarion Brass Choir, soprano Heather Steckler, pianist Linda Siverts and organist Charles Bradley.

The program will include performances of traditional carols, like “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “O Christmas Tree” and “Angels We Have Heard on High,” and some classical pieces, such as Bach’s “In Thee Is Joy” and Mendelssohn’s “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.”

The audience will even be invited to sing along with the brass choir and organ during some of the songs.

Tickets are $12 for general admission, $10 for seniors and $6 for children 6 and under, available at G&B Select-a-Seat outlets or by calling (800) 325-SEAT.
