City Accepts Firm’s Bid To Install Guardrail
The guardrail planned for High Drive is going up after all.
Spokane City Council members on Monday accepted the low bid from Peterson Bros. Inc. of Sumner, Wash., which will do the work for $50,884. That’s almost $14,000 less than the city estimated the project would cost.
The city wants the guardrail installed along High Drive in spots where the pavement is less than 14 feet from the dropoff.
The vertical drop from the top of the ridge to the bottom of the bluff is 500 to 550 feet.
The construction company also will remove 120 concrete posts because they pose a danger to motorists.
Once in place, the guardrail is designed to bend in an accident, reducing the risk of injury.
Plans call for installing 1,015 feet of guardrail in the narrow sections of High Drive from Manito Boulevard to 29th Avenue.
Money from the project will come from federal road dollars aimed at safety improvements.
This bid came in low nearly a month after the city rejected an earlier bid of $82,000 because it was too high.
Also on Monday, the council approved the final payment to Acme Materials and Construction Co. of Spokane for paving 31st Avenue from Myrtle to Cuba streets. The contract’s total cost was $83,445.
