Lakeside An Improved Powerhouse

A year ago Lakeside’s Northeast A League unbeaten wrestling team won its matches by an average of some 40 points per match.

Included was an 84-0 decision, the maximum score possible.

Now, said coach Scott Jones, “this is probably the best dual meet team I’ve ever had.”

Most of last year’s lineup is back, two deep at some weights.

Among them are six state veterans, five of whom placed at state.

There will be some challenges, most likely from Medical Lake, which returns its entire lineup, and Chewelah, which gave the Eagles their toughest dual last season.

Medical Lake, said coach Mike Carr, is young again, “but we’ve got some pretty skillful wrestlers coming back.”

Deer Park also returns several veterans and has a new coach.

Steve Meuer, a 1985 Mead graduate and two-time state champion, replaced Dean Largent, who stepped down after 20 years.

League matches begin tonight.
