Alternative Rockers Offer Benefit Album
Bush, Sponge and other alternative types have done a little giving of their own this holiday season by contributing tracks to a compilation album benefiting an organization that encourages voter registration.
The disc, “O Come All Ye Faithful: Rock for Choice” (Columbia), includes Henry Rollins’ eerie reading of ” ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas”; Bush merging “Hey Joe” with “Good King Wenceslas” for “Good King Somethingorother”; and the Presidents of the United States of America warbling a ditty titled “Christmas Piglet.”
Among other highlights is the sardonic “Christmas Day” by Sponge and Juliana Hatfield’s “Make It Home,” a ballad incorporating strains of “O Come All Ye Faithful.”
Rock for Choice was created five years ago partly as an abortion-rights platform and to mobilize music fans to register to vote.
