Breakup Turns Into Confrontation With Boyfriend Struck By Car
An 18-year-old Coeur d’Alene man was taken to the hospital after his girlfriend allegedly ran into him with a car, according to a Coeur d’Alene police report.
Wayne M. Johnson told police he got into an argument with his 16-year-old girlfriend Saturday night. She was upset because he wanted to go to a party with a previous girlfriend, according to the report.
During the argument, Johnson told the girl he wanted to break up and he wanted his snowboarding equipment returned.
The girl left, came back with the equipment and threw it on the ground near Lunceford Avenue, according to the police report. The girl pulled away but then drove back and nearly hit Johnson, according to the report. She drove away again, turned around and headed back toward Johnson.
Johnson’s friends warned him to get out of the way. But, witnesses told police, the girl ran into Johnson at about 30 mph, knocking him five feet off the ground, according to the report.
Johnson lay unconscious in the road for a few minutes before getting up and getting in a shoving match with the girl. She then got a bat and threatened Johnson with it, according to the report.
The girl told police she didn’t mean to hit Johnson. She said Johnson was standing in front of her car and wouldn’t move. He urged her to drive back at him, she said, and she accidentally slid into him.
Johnson’s friends took him to the hospital with multiple cuts and bruises. He was treated and released.
No charges have been filed, police said.
