Michael York and Mark Parrish scored two goals apiece, and Brian Boucher made 39 saves as the United States opened the World Junior Hockey Championships with a 4-0 victory over Switzerland.

Boucher, a draft choice of the Philadelphia Flyers, was particularly sharp in the opening period.

In the only other group A match, the Czech Republic beat Germany 8-2.

In Group B, Russia edged Slovakia 4-3, and Finland blank Poland 7-0.

Canada, looking for a record fifth consecutive title, opens play today against Germany.
