House Destroyed In Lighter-Caused Fire

From Staff Reports

Firefighters were caught between fire and ice Sunday, battling an early-morning blaze for hours in snow and freezing weather.

The rental house at 823 W. Grace was destroyed after a child accidently started a fire while playing with a lighter. Spokane Fire Department officials estimated damages to be $75,000. No one was hurt.

Crews tried to quench the blaze from about 1 a.m. until about 5 a.m, and stayed on the scene until about 9 a.m. The snow and bitter cold forced firefighters to work in two-hour shifts. , DataTimes
