Vandals Sweep Big Sky Track And Field Awards

The Idaho men’s 1,600-meter relay team, men’s triple jumper Chris Kwaramba and women’s shot putter Jill Wimer earned Big Sky Conference track and field athlete of the week honors for their performances at the University of Idaho Scoring Meet this past weekend.
The Vandals’ relay team of Tawanda Chiwira, Felix Kamangirira, Kevin Hill and Garth Chadband earned the men’s award by running a time of 3:11.95.
Kwaramba, a sophomore from Gweru, Zimbabwe, earned the field athlete of the week honor by finishing first in the triple jump with a best effort of 50 feet, 9.75 inches. Wimer was the women’s field athlete of the week as she broke her own school indoor record in the shot put with a toss of 46-6.25.
Women’s basketball
Aimee Keister’s basket with 6 seconds remaining gave Yakima Valley Community College a 53-52 triumph over the Community Colleges of Spokane Wednesday night in Yakima.
Heather Brandt hit four consecutive free throws to put the Sasquatch (8-13, 2-6 Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges) up 52-51 with 35 seconds left.
Keister and Heather Ennis both scored 14 points for the Indians (16-5, 7-0).
