Six Districts Seek Levies In Election
Six school districts and a hospital district in rural northeastern Washington have routine operating levies on the Feb. 6 election ballot.
In Stevens County, the Kettle Falls School District is seeking a $390,000 levy for two years. The levy would cost property owners an estimated $1.67 per $1,000 of assessed value in 1997 and 1998.
The Newport and Selkirk school districts have levy proposals in Pend Oreille County.
Newport wants approval of a one-year, $344,000 levy that would cost taxpayers an estimated $1.67 per $1,000 of assessed value in 1997.
Selkirk - which serves Ione, Metaline and Metaline Falls - proposes a two-year, $150,000-per-year levy that would cost an estimated $2.04 per $1,000 in 1997 and 1998.
In Lincoln County, the Reardan-Edwall School District is proposing a two-year levy of $598,000 in 1997 and $660,000 in 1998. The estimated tax rate would be $3.48 per $1,000 in the first year and $3.84 in the second. Almost half of the district’s voters live in Spokane County.
Elsewhere in Lincoln County, the Odessa School District and Hospital District No. 1, which serves the Odessa area, are seeking one-year levies.
The $374,000 school levy would cost property owners in Lincoln, Adams and Grant counties about $3.60 per $1,000 in 1997. The $375,000 hospital levy would cost an estimated $3.29 per $1,000.
The Republic School District has the only levy proposal in Ferry County. The district seeks $165,000 in both 1997 and 1998 at an estimated annual cost of 98 cents per $1,000 of assessed value.
