UI Law School Creates Named Professorship

From Staff And Wire Reports

The first named professorship has been created in the University of Idaho College of Law in honor of former Idaho Supreme Court Justice Allan Shepard.

Murial Kirk of Boise, a friend of Shepard’s wife, Donna, included the $200,000 donation to the University of Idaho in her will. Kirk, who died in 1992, was the first woman to be admitted to the bar in the state of Tennessee. Just 19-years-old at the time, her admittance required special legislation.

“The purpose of the named professorship is to reward outstanding teaching, scholarship and public service,” University of Idaho interim law Dean Jack Miller said.

Shepard served on the Idaho Supreme Court from 1968 until his death in 1989.
