Whalers 3, Avalanche 2
Denver, Colo.
Adam Burt scored at 2:24 of overtime, giving Hartford a victory over Colorado and spoiling Avalanche goaltender Patrick Roy’s attempt at his 300th win.
Roy, bidding to become only the 12th player in NHL history to post 300 career victories, made a brilliant save earlier in overtime but couldn’t stop Burt’s long shot, which was screened by Kevin Dineen.
It was the Whalers’ fourth straight win, all on the road.
