Lectures Focus On Respiratory Ills
Environmental respiratory disease will be the focus of an all-day session, Saturday, Feb. 24, in the Ag Trade Center for the second annual Robert F.E. Stier Memorial Lectures in Medicine.
Dr. Emil J. Bardana Jr., professor of medicine at Oregon Health Sciences University, will discuss “Occupational Respiratory Allergy” at 8:30 a.m.
Bardana and a panel of of Spokane-area experts will conduct a free public forum on “Air Pollution and Respiratory Health” at 3 p.m.
The panel will cover respiratory health effects of outdoor and indoor air pollution from grass burning, wood burning, car and industrial emissions. To register call 448-2513 before Feb. 16.

Learning healthy eating habits leads to healthy living, experts say.
At 7 p.m., Tuesday, Rockwood Clinic and HealthPlus will sponsor a HealthTalk on maintaining a healthy lifestyle and preventing cardiovascular disease, cancer and stroke.
Rockwood Clinic cardiologists and a dietitian will offer heart-healthy tips, recipes and the Heart Institute Food Plan.

Healthy heart recipes
A team of health professions will discuss the fundamentals of heart-healthy nutrition and exercise in “Recipe for a Healthier Heart,” sponsored by Deaconess Medical Center and Valley Hospital and Medical Center’s Community Programs.
Thursday’s session from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Deaconess, 312 W. Eighth, will cover the best new drugs to lower and maintain a proper cholesterol level, drug-nutrient interaction and tips on grocery shopping.
There’s no fee, but a healthy low-fat lunch is available for $4, or participants can bring their own sack lunch.

Dr. John Adams, a plastic surgeon, will discuss the newest techniques for cosmetic and reconstructive surgery on Thursday for “A Woman’s Night Out: Endoscopic Techniques in Plastic Surgery.”
