Three Countries Make Bid
Austria, Italy and Slovenia are making an unprecedented bid to host the 2006 Winter Olympics to be held at sites in the three countries.
The plan has the support of all three national governments, but is the creation of local authorities in the bordering towns of Arnoldstein, Austria; Tarvisio, Italy; and Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. All three sites are within 6-9 miles of each other.
The group was among the nine candidates for the 2002 Games, which were awarded to Salt Lake City.
