Major League Baseball owners are expected to end the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 18-month search for a new buyer when they vote on Kevin McClatchy’s $90 million buyout today.

The Boston Red Sox avoided arbitration with reliever Heath Slocumb by agreeing to a $1.4 million, one-year contract.

Pitcher Bob Wickman and the New York Yankees agreed to an $800,000, one-year contract.

The Baltimore Orioles acquired third-baseman Willis Otanez on waivers from the Seattle Mariners, bringing the club’s spring training roster to 40 players.

Darnell Coles, a former Mariners player, who spent parts of 13 seasons in the major leagues, signed a contract to play in Japan for the Chunichi Dragons.
