Police Sued For Excessive Force
A Post Falls man is suing the city and its police department, claiming former patrolman Mike Anderson used excessive force on him last summer.
Seltice Way resident Danny Hood said the incident ocurred when Anderson, a former Kootenai County commissioner, responded to a call at Hood’s trailer court about 5 p.m. June 24.
Anderson met Hood outside and told him to stand still, but Hood started walking toward his landlord’s house, according to the suit.
The officer ran across the road and forced Hood’s head into the ground. Anderson then put his knee on Hood’s head and held him there, the suit contends.
Hood was later handcuffed and locked inside Anderson’s patrol car, the suit states. Ten minutes later, Anderson released him with an apology.
Hood is seeking $50,000 in damages for emotional suffering.
Anderson, who left the department in August after four months on the job, came under fire last year after he punched an ill-mannered father at a junior high wrestling tournament in Sandpoint.
