Runaway Train Hits Building

Associated Press

A runaway train crashed into a building, injuring several people, authorities said Wednesday.

The number of people injured and the extent of their injuries were not immediately known.

A St. Paul fire dispatcher said the train derailed around midnight in the southeast corner of the city near a steel plant. She said she was not aware of any deaths in the accident.

Jeanette Hofmeister, a nursing supervisor at St. Paul-Ramsey Medical Center, said one victim had been taken to the hospital and two more were on the way. She said she did not know the extent of their injuries but that all three victims had been aboard the train.

Other details of the crash were not immediately available.
