Avalanche Warnings Issued For Mountains
If there is significant precipitation this weekend, avalanche problems could increase in the backcountry, the U.S. Forest Service said.
The weather forecast through the weekend calls for a chance of rain in the valleys and snow in the mountains. Heavy wet snow is expected below 5,000 feet, so backcountry travelers should avoid steep slopes and north, open-facing slopes, the Forest Service said.
South-facing slopes should provide good stability because new snow should bond well with the existing snow surface. Skiers and snowmobilers should use more caution after recent storms and if fresh avalanches are present.
