After one year as the football coach for a Florida high school team, former Florida coach Charley Pell is quitting. Pell, 54, has decided to return to private business in Anniston, Ala., where he is vice president of an employment placement agency. He coached Lake Region High School near Winter Haven to a 1-9 record last season.

It is undetermined at this time when he will be able to resume playing. … Dirk Koetter, a Boston College assistant coach who considered himself a longshot candidate at the start, was hired as offensive coordinator at Oregon. Koetter, 37, grew up in Pocatello, Idaho, played at Idaho State and coached Highland High of Pocatello to the state championship. … Brian Voss got his 16th career title by downing Dave Wodka 246-191 in the finals of the PBA’s Oregon Open at Hollywood Bowl.
