Big Blue Revamps Computer Products
IBM announced changes in all its computers for businesses Tuesday, incorporating features to make them more useful for finding and providing data on public networks such as the Internet.
IBM also announced new software that will let corporate systems managers keep track of computers through the Internet. It will also start a service that provides customized news updates to desktop PCs twice a day.
Improvements were made from desktop PCs to mainframe systems.
“Customers of all sizes are getting connected to the Internet and looking for novel ways to use it,” said Nicholas Donofrio, senior vice president in charge of IBM’s large computer division.
IBM also announced lower-cost versions of existing AS-400 minicomputers and the availability of mainframe that can run programs originally designed for minicomputers.
