Jayme Morrisette Ferris Year: Senior Sport: Basketball Position: Guard
Jayme Morrisette’s job description is pretty straightforward.
“I just do what comes to me,” the Ferris senior said. “If I need to score, I try to score, but I also need to get my teammates involved.”
In reality, it’s a little tougher.
“We’re counting on her getting us to the state tournament,” Saxons coach Janet Skaife said.
Ferris was within one game of state last year while winning 20 games (20-7) for the first time since 1984 (22-2).
The Saxons are 17-3 entering the district tournament with a regional berth in hand, and 20 wins would put them on the edge of the state tournament. A lot of the credit goes to Morrisette.
A 5-foot-11 point guard, Morrisette leads Ferris in scoring at 14 ppg.
“She needs to take care of the basketball for us,” Skaife said. “It seems when Jayme scores, the rest of the team contributes in different ways, and when she gets them the ball, they score.”
Morrisette credits Skaife and her assistant coach and husband, Jerry Skaife.
“My confidence has really grown this year,” Morrisette said. “Janet and Jerry have really been a godsend. They encourage me no matter what.”
Which is encouraging for the Saxons. , DataTimes ILLUSTRATION: Photo
