Micron Technology Dumps Zeos Pcs
A Micron Technology Inc. subsidiary has decided to discontinue its poorly rated lines of Zeos personal computers less than a year after merging with Minneapolis-based Zeos International Ltd.
“It means Micron didn’t do especially well in the acquisition,” David Coursey, editor of P.C. Letter, an industry newsletter, said Wednesday. “You have to wonder at this point, what did they get? They ended up screwing up a brand name and now have to get rid of it.”
But Micron Electronics Inc. spokesman Steve Laney maintains the merger was successful in unifying three small companies into a stronger, publicly traded company with more purchasing power.
“We gained a lot of expertise within the Zeos organization,” he said.
Micron Computer Inc., Micron Custom Manufacturing Services Inc. and Zeos International were merged into Micron Electronics in April 1995.
