Highlights from the past week in the Idaho Legislature
They said it
“This is not a North Idaho flood. This is an Idaho flood.” Gov. Phil Batt, in his address to a joint session of the Legislature about flooding in North Idaho.
Votes
Here are some of the votes taken this week:
Hold it right there: A bill sponsored by Lt. Gov. Butch Otter to require federal agents in Idaho to have concealed weapons permits failed in the House, 50-19. Tom Dorr, was the only North Idaho House member who voted in favor of the bill.
Adam and Steve: House Bill 658, denying recognition of foreign marriages that violate Idaho code - like same-sex marriages - passed in the House on a vote of 59-6. Voting in favor were Dorr, Jeff Alltus, June Judd, Hilde Kellogg, Don Pischner, Jim Stoicheff, and Marv Vandenberg. The only North Idaho vote against was Carol Pietsch; Charles Cuddy was absent.
State lands: The Senate Resources & Environment committee voted 9-2 to send a bill encouraging state involvement in management of federal lands to the full Senate. Mary Lou Reed was one of the dissenting votes.
