NEW FACES:

Michael Maehl has joined the Spokane office of Smith Barney as branch manager. Maehl has worked in the financial services industry for 23 years and most recently was branch manager of Smith Barney’s Kennewick office.

Michael Kelly has been hired as director of sales for Northwest Broadcasting Inc. and general sales manager for KAYU TV. Kelly has been involved in television broadcasting since 1982 and previously was corporate director of sales for Grant Television Group, which operates three Fox affiliates in the South.

Brandie Beebe has joined Jacklin Seed Co.’s marketing department as head of public relations and advertising. Beebe, a 1994 graduate of the University of Idaho, spent the year following her graduation as a traveling consultant for Kappa Kappa Gamma.

Kiemle & Hagood Co. has hired Michael Stone as a sales associate in the commercial leasing department. Stone was formerly with Robert Randall Group and CTL Management in Seattle.

The Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce has added two people to its staff:

Dan Kirschner has been named director of public affairs. Kirschner will manage the chamber’s public affairs committees, which study local, regional and national issues. He previously served as chief of staff for the Republican caucus for the Washington state House of Representatives.

Brendan Farnell was hired to fill the newly created position of local government coordinator. Farnell, a 1994 graduate of Washington State University, will be primarily responsible for keeping chamber members and staff informed on local government activity.

MOVING UP:

Christopher Lynch and Garth Bergh have become partners at the law firm of Paine, Hamblen, Coffin, Brooke and Miller LLP. Lynch practices patent, trademark and copyright law, commercial law and computer law. He also is an adjunct professor at Gonzaga University School of Law, where he teaches classes on intellectual property.

Bergh’s practice focuses on commercial and real estate law. Prior to joining Paine Hamblen in 1990, Bergh practiced real estate law in Seattle.

Farm Credit Services has promoted the following employees:

Michael Armstrong has been named senior vice president-Finance and Operations Division and chief financial officer. Armstrong, who joined Farm Credit in 1980, is primarily responsible for accounting, financial reporting, tax management, asset liability management, product pricing and operations.

Thomas Tracy has been named senior vice president and general counsel. His primary duties include corporate legal, litigation, associationwide loan processing and human resources. Tracy joined Farm Credit in 1983.

Bill Johnson has been named senior vice president of the strategic business solutions division. Johnson, a 14-year Farm Credit veteran, is primarily responsible for process innovation, information technology, performance improvement and credit standards.

Larry Soehren, director of Kiemle & Hagood Co.’s commercial management division, has become a partner and owner in the company. Soehren has been in Kiemle & Hagood’s commercial management division since 1983. He also recently received the designation of certified property manager (CPM) from the Institute of Real Estate Management.

Michael Butler has been named administrator of Hutton Settlement. He served as assistant administrator for seven years under former administrator Robert Revel. Butler earlier served as executive director of the Toutle River Boy’s Ranch for 10 years.

STARTING UP:

Debbie Morris has started Scenic West Travel Services in Kamiah, Idaho. The business will provide access to Idaho’s Cybermail of Adventure Travel, which was created to serve hospitality business in North Central Idaho. The service will provide online advertising to Internet users via the World Wide Web.

Hi-Tek Nails, a California-based retailer, has opened its first Northwest outlet in the NorthTown Mall. Loc Huynh and Lam Ngyen own the new outlet and five others. Hi-Tek Nails offers nail services for men and women. Wendy Nguyen has been named store manage and will oversee five technicians.

Applications for Leadership Spokane’s 10-month leadership training program are available now at the Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce, 1020 W. Riverside, or by calling 459-4116. Individuals interested in becoming members of the Class of 1997 must attend one of the following mandatory sessions, held at the Chamber: 7:30 p.m. Thursday; 7:30 a.m. March 5; or noon March 6. Tuesday and Wednesday - Two management workshops will be offered by SCORE for small-business owners. A workshop on business recordskeeping will be from 8 a.m.-noon Tuesday at the Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce, 1020 W. Riverside. A workshop on preparing a business plan will be offered Wednesday from 8 a.m.-noon at the chamber.
